A small Cessna 550 aircraft crashed into the Murphy Canyon neighborhood in San Diego on Thursday, May 22. The crash caused fires that affected approximately 15 homes in the area. The incident occurred near Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
Assistant Fire Department Chief Dan Eddy reported that jet fuel was spread extensively across the crash site. He stated, “Our main goal is to search all these homes and get everybody out right now.” Fire crews focused on evacuation and fire containment following the direct impact on multiple homes.
The FAA confirmed the crash but did not provide details on the number of people aboard the plane. Emergency services are conducting searches and assessing the damage in the affected neighborhood. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
